Back in March 2020, Transport For London (TfL) introduced heightened cleaning regimes across their entire Tube and Bus network. With COVID-19 in full swing, TfL did what it could to reduce the risk of Coronavirus spreading, despite the public transport network running for a minimal amount of users as many chose to work from home.
Their enhanced level of cleaning incorporated additional substances and cleaning methods that were proven to kill the virus and other bacteria on contact. Over the last 18 months, these have become part of their regular cleaning routine and it’s thanks to these improvements that were made at the very beginning of the pandemic, that TfL is in the position it is, a very clean one that is.
Transport For London Prove Their Cleaning Commitment Works
The Imperial College London has recently carried out tests on behalf of TfL. TfL instructed the college to carry out monthly tests in a bid to ensure their heightened cleaning regime was doing what they suspected and holding off the spread of the virus as much as possible.
Their most recent testing only solidifies the fact that antiviral fog cleaning is stopping the spread as both the tube and bus network has shown no evidence for traces of the virus.
”The stations in question were some of the busiest in the city, with Waterloo and Euston stations being amongst them.

What Was Tested?
This recent testing has involved using machines that draw in around 300 litres of air per minute. The air is subsequently tested for quality and presence of the virus.
As well as testing the air inside the TfL stations, swabs were also taken from touch points such as ticket machines, barriers and hand rails where the virus is more likely to be found. The results stating no traces found only go to show that the anti-viral fluids used during their cleaning ensure a much safer environment for all.
Not only have these results, and future results we’ll no doubt see from the continued monthly testing, giving travellers a new and improved confidence in this form of public transport but it simply highlights how regular cleaning can help stop the spread of COVID-19, far more efficiently than we realise.
